Beren : This character attracted people's attention and during the past 2 years, we talked a lot about rape and how a raped girl can overcome her tragedy throughout rehabilitation, and how society deals with this girl, her fiance, his family, her village. We saw how she had to leave to another city and what she had to go through because of that. The rich family she had to face.
I think that society now talks about this issue in a more positive way. The trauma that a raped girl faces, can only be treated with love and patience. Kerim's character is very important for such women too. He is very patient and he accepts everything from the girl he loves. And this solves a lot of problems. That's why the Turkish woman liked this role because it gave hope to the victims.

Beren : Of course. An actor can never succeed all alone. Of course he has to be talented, but there has to be a good writer, a good director who helps the actors. We are around 100 persons in this teamwork. Actually the viewer enjoys the series even without realizing the efforts of all these people behind it. They see a beautiful picture, nice lighting, a beautiful music.. a lot of parameters make a series successful. That's why, an actor all alone can't do anything. A good team is a must.

Shafky : Great. I want to ask you a very important question. The rape scene is one of the most difficult scenes to any woman, not only to an actress. How were you able to live this scene, and deliver this great performance that was so natural that we really thought a girl is being raped ?
Beren : For me, it was very difficult of course. And it took a lot of time to film. But it wasn't difficult just for me. It was difficult for the other actors too. Even the ladies of the team who were there that night, were very affected. I got very affected physically and emotionally for many days after it, because I became deeply linked with this role. On ano ther hand, understanding a character and its structure moves my feelings and make me act in this way. Yes, it was hard, but today for example, I played a hard scene too for example. Pulling a woman from her hair, I've never done such a thing in my life, but it is in the story and I have to do it in a convincing way. There were a lot of difficult scenes to shoot, the fights, the traumas ... I had to understand them from inside in order to act them.

Shafky : I agree with you, and we received the emotions you were trying to deliver... After the rape you were dressing in a special way. You were always wearing additional things under your dresses, covering you neck with scarves. Was it planned ? because a raped girl closes on herself , even in the way she dresses ?
Beren : We worked with psychiatrists who helped us understand the character. After the rape, everyone blames the raped girl. Even herself. She keeps asking herself all the time "what did I do ? what is my mistake ? " Fatmagul's clothes that we used after the rape were important. She doesn't stay late outside anymore, she doesn't leave her hair loose. She stops taking care of herself like women usually do. That's what the specialists explained to us. She keeps blaming herself, and that's what we did. Fatmagul tied her hair, wore dark clothes in order not to attract attention. And after time passed and she started going for therapy and falling in love with a man, she started wearing more colorful clothes, and showing her neck, and letting her hair free, and putting a little bit of make-up. Now Fatmagul is laughing and trying to heal herself and deal with live in a positive way.

Shafky : There is something really weird. While watching you, we feel like we were living with you in the same house. You, Kerim, Rahmi, Mukaddes, Meryem. Your traditions are very close to our traditions in the arab world.
Beren : Yes we are close. After moving to the city, they needed to live altogether in the same house. Culture wise we are close to each other. Lately I watched again the movie "separation" who won an oscar, and I noticed how much the societies look alike in the way they react to things. We refer to the arab countries as the "oriental turkey". Of course there are a lot of physical differences but humanly we look a lot like each other. That's what I think.

Shafky : I feel that Beren Saat comes from a high class society. You know many languages, english, spanish ... You are a good dancer, you come from a family where your father is an engineer. How did you manage to portray a simple girl like Fatma ?
Beren : Even my role in ask-i memnu was completely different than my own personality. I'm not that kind of woman. And I played other roles too, of women different than I am. The best thing about the acting job is that we discover new characters, like in a laboratory. We read a character and get to know it. And on the top of it, I add a part of own myself as Beren in it. I add emotions and feelings ... and in the end, we might change the viewer's opinion about a character and make them love it... Acting is very important to me, and I love this job.

Da . Pare asa de ancorat in realitate Engin . Pare "uman" .
La pregatirile pentru interviu ...cred ca ii puneau lavaliera . Dar de ce i-au mai dat pe el sacoul ? Ca parea destul de cald afara .
