A MAN
Even though you say “I don’t follow tabloid world, I don’t read any tabloid press”, you are bombarded by the tabloid news every time you watch a TV or read a newspaper or a magazine. What is tabloid news? Where should it stop? These topics are open to discussion but also they are very difficult topics because the real rating, circulation, or advertisement income is there. Therefore, it is almost impossible to make tabloid media auto control themselves or draw the line. The concepts are so intertwined that the art has become the basic material of the tabloid press and the real artists are put on the same level with the tabloid actors. Everything has been mixed up and turned into some kind of spaghetti; therefore, you find yourself blind and deaf because of all the impositions and inducements without even realizing it. This is not something new; it has been going on for a long time. Isn’t it true that people who do bad music, who vitiate the classical music norms, and who destroy our language are crowned and glorified? Isn’t it true that the tabloid media made us believe them? Isn’t it true that some of the actors, whom the media made us believe that they are good and great actors and deserved a standing ovation, are really bad actors? And you can’t even criticize these actors because the media stones you, criticizes you, or even labels you as jealous and ignorant.
Lately, we see these impositions very often. You are forced to believe that “someone” is an actor. And we believe. That’s the truth. You are forced to watch a very bad “Turku singing scene” in the middle of a conversation with friends when you are told “Did you watch that video? You should watch it. That man did very well.” What a torture! When you look at your friend’s face with wide open eyes asking “You think this is extraordinary?” and you get the response of “That’s very typical of you” because of your reaction. “You are bad-tempered. You are difficult. You always find some fault.” Are we the ones who have the problem? Do we have to like everything imposed on us? Do you need an example? Here is a very popular and simple example: Do I have to like Kivanc Tatlitug for God’s sake? I am really tired of seeing him everywhere, or people forcing me to accept how handsome he is, how great actor he is, how beautiful his voice is. Don’t we have anything else to talk about? Or isn’t there any other man in this country? When I see a TV show interviewing a famous person, the host absolutely asks about what s/he thinks about Kivanc Tatlitug and they start manipulating her/him by asking questions like “He showed a lot of progress, didn’t he?” “He surprised people, didn’t he?” Of course, the guest can’t speak honestly while s/he is on TV. It is not an easy thing; there are fans, there is an answer expected by the host by not leaving you any other choice, and there is also courtesy that prevents him/her from being honest. I can tolerate a little bit when you ask these questions to young people or people who are new to this circle but it is very rude to ask the same questions in a very short interview to a person who spent his/her many years in acting instead of asking about his/her career. We do this all the time. But what will happen if the person being interviewed gives an honest answer? I am sure the guest who answers the question truthfully instead of the host who asks the question will be labeled as “unmannerly” or “a person who doesn’t give a chance to young people” Not to mention comparisons; it is very popular to compare any actor they mention to Kivanc Tatlitug. Sometimes, I think and question myself that maybe this man is really good but I am prejudiced or reacting to impositions. I vaguely remember Kivanc Tatlitug from “Gumus” series. I didn’t take him seriously. He was photogenic but he wasn’t very appealing as a man for me. I really don’t care much about the physical appearance. I do care his appeal as an actor. He wasn’t even an actor in Gumus. Then we had the storm of Ask-I Memnu. I never watched that series because either I wasn’t able to be at home during the prime time hour or I was watching some other series until I saw the final episode in a small family meeting. Everybody was watching the last episode. I got lucky and saw him at the very last moments of the series. But what a luck! The magnificent Kivanc Tatlitug was at the cemetery. He was crying after the deceased beloved. And everybody was watching with very sad eyes. But it wasn’t a drama; it was a comedy. We were watching a blond boy as a leading actor who was struggling in a scene he was doomed to fail. First, I felt pity but then I started laughing my ass off. I couldn’t control myself at the moment Behlul ran away. And, right there, I put Kivanc Tatlitug to my list of “Buckley’s chance” under the angry eyes of my family. But, he didn’t stay there. He climbed one stair up and he declared his monopoly among the young generation actors. Kivanc was everywhere. He was the focus of every conversation. He was in the commercials; he was on the tabloid press which he allegedly never gave a statement. He was being compared to other actors in other serials and he was being advertised by using other actors. Oh my God, he worked out and he had such a nice six packs and he did this for his role. Such a self-devotion! Such an effort! The compliments were multiplied with these six packs. Kivanc Tatlitug Lobby was dominant everywhere. Kivanc was the most handsome. Kivanc was a great actor who went beyond himself and who surprised people. Kivanc was a man who made a history and mortified people who said that a male model couldn’t be an actor. Kivanc was everything. Kivanc was everywhere. Kivanc was a name that was forcefully nailed into our subconscious with capital letters. And what about the others? They were only figurants who were used for making him the topic of fresh news. Right now, Kivanc is the only name of the TV series industry. He is the most handsome and the most talented actor. People were very insistent; therefore I thought this man, maybe, really showed some progress and I was being judgmental. And while switching channels, I watched Kuzey Guney twice. The first one was again a cemetery scene and I don’t even remember the second one or maybe I don’t want to remember. How could you watch someone who was trying to act with a great effort? An actor should flow like water. A character should be embroidered by flowing like water or like a gentle breeze and he should make you believe that it is real. There wasn’t a gentle breeze, let alone water. I can’t deny the effort but he had very rough and forceful bad-ass voice. Trying to talk with a deep voice is not enough to be toughie or bad-ass. It is just pretending. He was pretending to be an actor. He isn’t and won’t be beyond that.
Well, is that really so? Is Kivanc a handsome man?
A man shouldn’t be as if he is drawn with a pencil. He must have defects on his face. There must be characteristic attributes reflecting his personality. For example, an up-turned nose doesn’t look good on man. A man’s nose is the symbol of his power in a way. Looks of a man shouldn’t become meaningful with two colorful circles. It should have a depth. When you look into a simple and ordinary brown or black eyes, you should get lost in their depth, you should be able to see the mysteries of his soul or the storms to be breaking in his heart or the things he went through and you should think that he has more secrets. He should be able to look at you lewdly and he should be able to pull you like a magnet. He should make you feel his love or remorse to the bone by making you quiver. He should be able to assure you and say “Don’t you worry, I am with you, right beside you” with his looks without saying a single word. While a woman get lost in his looks, she should feel like she is the most special being in the world. Men are focused to stare whereas women are focused to be stared. Therefore, women want meaningful and beautiful stares. If a man’s eyes look dull then they are not beautiful; it doesn’t matter if they are blue or green or any other color. For example, Engin Akyurek looks beautifully; he hypnotizes you with his looks. You feel everything in his looks and you get lost in their depth. Even though we didn’t watch Kenan Imirzalioglu in very different roles, he looks manly. Ozan Guven looks a little bit crossed-eyed but they are very impressive. These men are not like they are drawn with a pencil. But they are attractive and they are the real handsome. Therefore, Kivanc cannot be put into the handsome category. Does he have any characteristic attribute that is meaningful? No. Moreover, there is something repulsive about his teeth. I think we can’t see his upper teeth most of the time. However, you should see the teeth not the gums when a man or a woman smiles. And if it was a man, his teeth can be crooked, it doesn’t really matter. But, they should be strong and clean; just like Engin Akyurek’s. When he smiles, his crooked teeth shine like a pearl and enlighten your world as well. These men say “I am a man” by secreting manly hormones with their eyes and their teeth that enlighten a crooked but beautiful and sincere smile. These are the hormones that cannot be secreted with six packs. Yes, those six packs can’t be sexy enough sometimes; they can only be a good picture; just like Cagatay Ulusoy’s. In addition to all these qualifications we mentioned above, if they also are good actors, then they take hold of you. Like Engin Akyurek and Ozan Guven. And Kivanc? I am sorry but he is not still a good actor, he just pretends as if he is a good actor. However, an actor makes you believe the character by wrapping himself up in that character from head to toe. You can’t make this happen by just coarsening your voice. A man’s voice, especially an actor’s voice must be thunderous sometimes. And he should be able to softly whisper the most beautiful love words into your ears. It should be sincere and natural. An actor should be able to touch a woman’s hair with his fingertips in such a way that he should make you daydream by making you feel as if he is touching your hair. Men are focused on touching whereas women are focused on being touched. And therefore, women care about men’s hand more than you can imagine. A man, an actor, should know how to touch and how to use his hand.
A man is as handsome as how much he knows about how to look, touch or use his voice. And an actor is an actor when he has all of these and when he makes you believe that he is the character he personated. They can impose all they want; Kivanc can’t be characterized as a good actor as long as we see him, not Kuzey persona when he is acting. Engin Akyurek is a real actor since we see Kerim Ilgaz or Mustafa Bulut, not him. Even comparing him with others is waste of time; as I did right now.

CINEMA-TV > Cappadocia becomes set for fanstastic children’s fiction
NEVŞEHIR - Anatolia News Agency
Fantasy film ‘Hittitia: The Secret of the Medallion,’ which will be shooting in the Cappadocia, will be the first of its kind, according to the producer Berkan Zincidi. The film describes the adventures of three siblings
With a budget of 7 million Turkish Liras, the film’s cast also consists of Serra Yılmaz, Gürkan Uygun, Okan Yalabık, Mete Horozoğlu and Engin Akyürek. The director of the film is German Verena S. Freytag. AA photo
Turkey’s first ever fantasy children’s film will begin filming on Aug. 27 in Göreme, in the Cappadocia region, famous for its fairy chimneys. “Hittitia: The Secret of the Medallion” describes the adventures of three siblings, looking for their mother in a fantastic world called “Hittitia.”
Both Turkish and German actors will star in the film. Among them are one of the best known actors in Germany, Bruno Eyron, and Turkish child star Emir Berke Zincidi, who is known for his role in famous Turkish T.V. drama “Öyle Bir Zaman Geçer Ki” (Time Goes By).
With a budget of 7 million Turkish Liras, the film’s cast also consists of Serra Yılmaz, Gürkan Uygun, Avni Yalçın, Uğurkan Erez, Okan Yalabık, Mete Horozoğlu and Engin Akyürek. The director of the film is German Verena S. Freytag, and the operative producers are Cengiz Deveci and Berkan Zincidi. Producer Zincidi has announced that the film will be a fantastic story full of heroism, with the mother in the film trying to protect her children from evil powers. The movie has a distinctive style, which has not been seen on the silver screen before, Zincidi said. “Turkey will have heroes unique to itself. With the magnificent spectacle of Cappadocia, children will love the story, and it is the kind of film that children will be able to perceive easily. There are not many children’s films or T.V. series in Turkey, so this is a new approach in the Turkish cinema sector. We are expecting to export the film too.”
Zincidi pointed out that “Hittitia: The Secret of the Medallion” would be the first film in a trilogy, with another two films set to be released in due course. “The film will be released in February and will come out in many countries in Europe. We invite children to the film, they will love it, our scenario is adventurous.” The actor Gürkan Uygun said many effects and animation techniques would be used in the film. “Cappadocia is like a plateau. It has a suitable character for our story. I am playing a bad hero, a hybrid combination of human and snake. This is the first fantastic film I will ever have acted in,” Uygun said.
Another performer, Serra Yılmaz, said such films were important for the Turkish cinema industry. “These kinds of films should continue with weekend children’s screenings at 11 a.m. at cinemas in Istanbul. Turkey needs children’s theatre and children’s films.”
German actor Bruno Elroy said he had never been to Cappadocia before and added that it was wonderful to meet children through cinema. Elroy’s role in the film is rather simple, as he only has to search for his wife in the film, he said. The child performer Emir Berke Zincidi, starring as Alaz, said: “It is fantastic film and full of heroism. I am the hero, one of three siblings. We are going to try to save our mother from the evil powers. The film is better than Harry Potter. We will see.”
About the film
“Hittitia: The Secret of the Medallion” is about a family, an archeologist father (Bruno Eyron), children Alaz (Emir Berke Zincidi), Nehir (Nehir Çağlayan) and Yaman (Egemen Zincidi), and their mother “Asya,” who has supernatural powers. After their mother dies, the children refuse to believe in their mother’s death, and so begin to look for her in a parallel universe called “Hittitia.”
