With all those females watching your every move, can you imagine yourself with a wedding ring on your finger?
-Yes. I definitely want children. I'm only concerned about their mother: I still haven't found the right women for myself, and I am not this easily fell in love guy who would go thoughtless in an affair just to become a father.
Does your mother maybe remind you that it is time to get married?
-Not just my mother, but my father, too. They understand that getting married while being a famous actor who works a lot and has no time for private life is difficult, but they still want grandchildren.
Do you have your type of women?
-If you asked me that 15years ago,I would give an answer right away.Today,I can say that I like women whose wonderful character reflects on their face, who stand firmly with their feet on the ground and from who I can learn something, but without them pushing their intelligence in forefront. Do I ask too much?
Is it true that you had doubts between your acting and sport career?
-No way! After graduating in Math,I intended to choose a third life path, but things simply came in the way they did. I only played basketball in my teenage age. I was very tall and I played well, but I never fantasized about being a professional sport. Actually being this tall was a big frustration for me. Turkish ladies are not tall,so I was affraid that I won't be able to find a girl and that none will want me because of my height. Fortunately, that fear was unjustified.
Are you the tallest in your family?
-My grandfather was taller, stronger than me. But,my brother and my sister, who keeps a wedding dress boutique with my aunt in Ankara, are also pretty tall.
Does that mean, your future wife will have to pick a wedding dress in your sisters boutique?
-When it comes to that,it will probably be like that: wedding dress for my wife will be designed by my sister and my aunt.
What things remind you of your childhood in the village?
-Many beautiful pictures and memories. I especially remember spring time in our countryside, when everything would blossom and I would run barefoot on the grass. When you live on the land and with the land, you learn to listen this rythm of nature. I was raised surrounded by sheep, cows ad chicken held by my father. Though he finished technical school,he never thought on leaving his farm and moving to the city. My parents still live on our farm 80km from Ankara. Only during the winter they move to our relatives in Ankara.
Do you sometimes miss that country way of life?
-Of course I do. Although, I have to admit..living in a city with 15ml people has it good sides. The city really lives 24/7,everything is available and more relaxed, cosy. When I have this need for nature,I go to the woods with my friends, take my shoes off so I can feel the earth under my feet, light a camping fire and enjoy talking with them. That is the best fun for me.
Can you imagine yourself as a math professor?
-I don't think I will ever work as a professor because I love acting too much. But,thanks to math,I've learned to think analytically. I'll never forget my favorite professors words who thought us that a good matematician must be able to recognize a problem,to look at it from different points of view and then to solve it in his own way. By this principle I lead myself in everyday life.
What do you remember most from your college days?
-I listened to heavy metal, actually trash metal. That type of music was perfectly suited to my youth energy. I went out in Istanbul cult clubs around Taksim square. But,as I get older,my taste in music changes. Today, I prefer jazz..and I listen to it on LP's.
What was your look in those student days?
-For a while,I had long hair cos we used to dance shaking our heads, but I never wore black shirts, gloves or metal belts like other "metal"guys. I never understood why should we all look the same. We were rebels fighting against the system and social conventions,so I found it inappropriate to be dressed the same, like state clerks. So,though listening to heavy metal,I dressed normal.
What did your parents say about it?
-My mom was against my long hair and my dad,who is a traditional man, just smiled saying to my mom:"Let him enjoy. Eventually he'll have to cut it when he starts working". He was right.
When did you cut your hair?
Do you miss those rebellious days?
-Not at all. Every period of life has its good sides and I don't regret about the days that are gone. I try to focus on myself-on things that are important for me and I try to find beauty in how I live today.
Were you a troublemaker?
-No,I'm not that type of person. I haven't had a fight since high school days. Except on the movie.
Can you understand this principle of revenge in which Ezel works by?
-I hope I'll never be in a situation similar to the one Ezel is in,because revenge doesn't resolve anything. Quite opposite,it only brings more problems. Finally, at the end, Ezel will realize that he has to give up on this imaginary revenge if he wants to stay close to Eysan who, despite everything,he can't stop loving. That love he feels towards her is going to change him. That I can and want to understand.
Are status symbols like villa, expensive car or yacht important to you as they are to Ezel?
-My goal isn't becoming rich. Even to Ezel, all those status symbols are important only so he could show to his friends who betrayed him that he has a better car, better house, better suit. It is just a part of his revenge. My biggest wealth, despite the money I've earned, is the fact that I didn't lost my sensibility for other people and that I remained the same person I was always.
What do you spend your money on?
-I love music,so I don't regret spending money on LP's,CD's.. I'm also happy that I can afford myself paintings that I like and going on cruises.
Can money and wealth make a person happy?
-No money won't make you happy if your heart isn't pure and you haven't found your inner peace. For me,the greatest happiness is doing the job I love, being good at it..money and success are only logical consequence of great love and hard work invested in things I do.
How do you define inner peace?
-Not being greedy,to be in peace and harmony with yourself,to be able to go sleep with clean conscience and to wake up with a clear and open heart. The peak of pleasure is to be able to share your happiness with people you care about.
How do you handle being so popular?
-Every medal has two sides, good and bad one.I don't like that I can't go out and have a cup of tea without getting surrounded by paparazzi and cameras. And the only way I can be with a girl is if we get closed in my four walls(my home). No walks in the park or anything like that. Because it would be in the press right away. But,being popular has some good sides, too. Fans often give you their parking space and people respond more to humanitary actions I'm involved in.
What makes you angry and what sad?
-I can't stand being hungry. When I'm hungry,I get nervous. I also get angry by traffic jam. I can't understand people who are insensitive toward others. I get very sad if someone important to me gets sick or hurt in any way. To myself,I can't forgive not doing things in the best way I could(i'm a perfectionist)
How would your dream day look like?
-I open my eyes, let the music play and make tea. I go out on the ship deck,my children running into my arms calling me:"daddy,daddy"..behind them-my wife standing and smiling at me.And then we all sail into the unknown. I hope this is the picture of my future.
