Zee TV to re-visit the concept of Punar Vivah with a fresh story line?

Zee TV, the pioneer of TV entertainment in India will soon come up with a differentiated program with respect to fiction. The success of the show Punar Vivah as a brand has given rise to a thought wherein the channel feels that many new and fresh stories can be told by keeping the brand value of Punar Vivah in mind.

A reliable source from the industry tells us that Zee TV and the makers of Punar Vivah, Shashi-Sumeet Mittal Productions Pvt. Ltd are working on a new story under the Punar Vivah brand name due to its success, relevance in contemporary times and relatability to viewers. This new show will not be termed as a Season 2, and will have nothing to do with the ongoing story line of Punar Vivah which has Gurmeet Choudhary and Kratika Sengar as leads. The present faces of the show Gurmeet and Kratika will not be part of the new show, is what we have got to hear.

Our source goes on to state that auditions are in full swing for this new project, and the channel is looking to cast few big names as part of the lead cast.

Sources suggest that Bidaai fame jodi Sara Khan and Angad Hasija have auditioned for the same.

We tried calling Producer Sumeet Mittal for a confirmation and sent him text messages, but did not receive any response even after repeated attempts.

The channel source too refused to comment on the above-said news.

Punar Vivah on Zee TV has very realistically explored a remarriage- both the joy associated with entering into matrimony again as well as the trials and tribulations that are often associated with remarriage in the format of a highly entertaining family drama. With remarriages being more acceptable in Indian society; there are many Indians who can relate to the show too.

'Punar Vivah' new chapter to start soon
"Punar Vivah", about remarriage, will hit the channel in a new avatar soon. Neither a second season nor a leap, it will bring a new storyline with a new cast.

"Punar Vivah", about remarriage, will hit the channel in a new avatar soon. Neither a second season nor a leap, it will bring a new storyline with a new cast.

With a focus on remarriage, "Punar Vivah" went on air last year with Gurmeet Chaudhary and Kratika Sengar playing the lead and the concept appealed to the viewers making it successful.

In the new chapter, the story will revolve around the lives of two young people and their families.

"We do not believe in stretching a plot beyond the intended span of its narrative," Ajay Bhalwankar, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, Content Head (Hindi general entertainment channel [GEC]) said in a statement.

Titled "Punar Vivah... Ek Nayi Umeed", the new version will once again be produced by Shashi-Sumeet.

"While the story of 'Punar Vivah' with its original characters of Yash and Aarti has run its full course and comes to an end shortly, we feel that the subject of remarriage offers an extremely interesting canvas for story-telling and there are so many layers of a man-woman relationship that can be explored. Hence the new story, the new chapter," said Bhalwankar.

Angad Hasija not in Punar Vivah 2 but in Badaltey Rishton ki Daastan?
Badaltey Rishton ki Daastan on Zee TV may get a new male lead in Angad Hasija who says he never was confirmed for Punar Vivah 2.

Angad Hasija who is taking his own time to choose a new show after opting out of Savitri, is currently a happy man enjoying much needed family time with his wife and daughter. However, at the same time he is eager to get back to work and acting, "It is high time now that my fans get to see me on Indian Television and I am waiting for the right role this time. I had couple of offers and had gone for a meeting for Punar Vivah 2 too and the next thing I read everywhere is that I am doing the show. However, it didn't work out and I am not doing that show."

In the meantime, Angad was also offered the main male lead in Zee TV's Badalte Rishton ki Daastan which had Abhinav Shukla playing the main lead but the character was shown as dead after couple of episodes. "Yes, I am seriously considering doing Badaltey Rishton ki Daastan. Just a day or two and things will be locked."

Angad who likes to read says that he reads spiritual books and regularly practices meditation and yoga too, "That is when I feel that I have given time for myself and I get to know myself in the process. Also it works for the peace of mind and body and helps to have a focussed mind which doesn't wander. It also helps me as an actor to keep me calm and cool."

The good looking actor is also regularly working on his body at the gym these days, "I am getting a new portfolio shoot done and need to look good for that so it is lots of gymming for me these days. Apart from that I spend all my time at home and don't go out much. I gather my friends at home or go out to get-togethers at their house. Sara Khan has shifted close to my house so we had lots of parties at each other's homes recently and had a great time."

His staying at home has also kept his wife Pari and four year old daughter Angel happy, "My wife Pari is happy to see me at home for such a long time and I am enjoying each minute with Angel. She was very small when I was doing Bidaai and Phulwa and would cry when she would see me because I would reach home late in the night and was practically a stranger to her. Now she makes me sit with her and watch Chhota Bheem cartoons with her and we have a good time together."

Aamna, Ashima or Ankita: Who will win the race?


After deciding to revamp 'Punar Vivah', the production house is now busy finalising the new lead pair, who will take the show's legacy forward in season two.

While Karan V Grover has been signed on to play the male lead, the female protagonist is yet to be finalised. Chances are high that Aamna Shariff, whose last show Hongey Judaa Na Hum ended in six months, will get selected. However, another contender who is giving her tough competition is Ashima Bhalla. The actress had paired up with Karan in Meri Awaaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni five years ago.

Wait, there's more. If sources are to be believed, Ankita Lokhande — Archana of Pavitra Rishta — is also being considered for the part. Says our source, "While Aamna stands a higher chance of being finalised, the channel is now considering Ankita's name. We are expecting the channel to decide in a day or two." Producer Sumeet Mittal didn't revert to our text message.
