"The theatrical trailer has been attached with Saif Ali Khan's romcom Happy Ending, which releases today."
Barun Sobti is all set to recreate the magic of his glorious TV days on the big screen with 'Main Aur Mr Riight', the trailer of which has been uploaded online. Joining him is Shenaz Treasurywala, who's back after a hiatus. The movie revolves around Aliya Raj, a casting agent, whose quest for Mr Right is laden with comic instances and sugar-coated romance. The theatrical trailer has been attached with Saif Ali Khan's romcom Happy Ending, which releases today.
Director Adeep Rais says that he was confident that their trailer would strike a chord with the urban audience. He enthuses, "I think this film is a quality date flick. It's encouraging that after seeing the trailer, people are comparing it with other small movies that have been successful. It also puts pressure on us to deliver a product that matches up to people's expectations."
Producer Pooja Gujral adds, "John Abraham, who has roped in Barun for his film, has loved the trailer. I'm sure that everyone who watches the film will relate to one of the characters in the film."
Main Aur Mr Riight, produced by Madmidaas Films, releases December 12.

‘I hate being the centre of attention’
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
The heartthrob of Indian television is making his debut on the silver screen with rom-com Main and Mr Riight and John Abraham’s production venture Satrah Ko Shaadi Hai
Barun Sobti is a heartthrob of Indian television. He created history when days after his announcement of “moving on” from television and quitting his famous tele-series Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon show, thousands of his fans forced the broadcasting channel to shut it almost overnight.
Well, now audiences will get to see Sobti on the 70 mm screen as he makes his Bollywood debut with Main Aur Mr Riight. Shenaz Treasurywala will be seen paired opposite him. Talking about his upcoming release Barun shares, “It’s an urban love story which revolves around this girl who dreams of finding Mr Right. Aliya Raj (Shenaz) is a casting agent who has a vivid imagination that Mr Right will be a guy out of a fairy tale, a knight in shining armour who will come riding a white horse, etc. Soon the hero, Sukhi, enters her life. But unlike her dream man, this boy is a typical crude and complete dehati fellow who is a wannabe model/actor. The movie largely showcases how perceptions change and love looks beyond all inhibitions.”
When quizzed about what kind of homework did he do to portray a wannabe model, he shares, “Playing this character actually brought back memories from when I came to Mumbai for the first time. Before I started working in television, I auditioned for various advertisements. By nature, I am very shy and have an introvert kind of a personality. I hate being the centre of attention. So, back then I used to just sit and watch people go through the process. During those days, I remember that I went to at least 50-60 auditions. I used to observe all the other boys who overcame their inner fear and would go out of their way to show that they were so cool. Hence, for this particular role, I took all those memories from the past to portray Sukhi. He is a loud Punjabi wannabe actor and model.”
How does he feel about his transition from television to 70 mm? “Nai yaar, I don’t feel there is any transition. The Indian television industry is looking up. If you see in the US, the TV industry is far bigger and better than American cinema. Initially there was a bridge of sorts. But now I think actors from both the sides like working in both the media.”
After Main aur Mr Riight, Barun is looking forward to John Abhram’s production venture Satrah Ko Shaadi Hai directed by TV scriptwriter Arshad Sayeed, co-starring newbie Sapna Pabbi, who was last seen as Anil Kapoor’s daughter in the mini-series 24.
Informing about it, he shares, “It’s a very promising movie and I loved working with John. The film is about the five days of wedding and how the lead characters’ match is at the mercy of a bunch of relatives.”
Lastly, talking about his movie choices, he asserts, “Right from the time I started out, I have just focused on the script and have associated myself with movies that are heavy on content so that when people see, they know that it’s a good movie. I love doing intense characters because it has always been my forte. Also I got to know one thing that comedy is tough to pull out. It’s really heart breaking when people don’t laugh at your jokes. So, yeah I’ll stick to intense roles for now.”

Delays haven’t deterred Barun Sobti
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
He was at the height of his popularity on the small screen, with Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, when Barun Sobti decided to leave abruptly to pursue his fortunes in Bollywood. Now the television actor has joined the league of Bollywood aspirants and is waiting for the release of his film Main Aur Mr Right.
The film that was slated to release last year has had its share of delays but Barun remains optimistic. “Plans of release work for big films. Smaller films take longer and though the film was complete we had a long, post-production process, which turned out to be longer than expected. Things are finally moving ahead now and I hope it’s for the best.” He adds that his family has been supportive too. “I am my harshest critic. My family and friends are sensible people, who won’t praise me just for the sake of it. They like what they have seen, so I’m confident. Our film is not some smart gen-next thriller. It’s a simple film that aims to leave an impression on the audience. We are not over committing.”
So where was Barun, since his hit show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, went off air two years ago? “I wasn’t working. I was just spending time with family and friends. Offers came my way but I didn’t take up anything. I have always preferred to wait for something that genuinely interests me.”
In his film, Barun stars opposite former MTV VJ Shenaz Treasurywala (now Treasury). And he seems impressed by her. “She’s a happy person, grinning all the time. She has been sweet to me.”
Ever since his television show went off air, fans have been curious about when they would see Barun and co-star Sanaya Irani together next. “I don’t get too many such direct requests but I am aware that people like to see us together. Kya pata hum jald hi kare bhi kuch saath mein?” he trails off on a note of optimism.
Main Aur Mr Right is not the only film he Barun is committed to. He is part of two other films 22 Yards and Satra Ko Shaadi Hai that have also been delayed. The actor says that he isn’t making conscious efforts to get film projects. “Honestly, there has been no extra effort. Someone gives me a call, and if I like the offer then I say yes. It’s as simple as that. Even for Main Aur Mr Right, I was given a couple of scenes during the audition and then I got signed on. From what I know, one of my other films will release early next year. The shoot of the other one is yet to be completed. So I’m hoping to see both 22 Yards and Satra Ko Shaadi Hai hit the theatres next year.”
So is it goodbye to television, now that the actor has his eyes on the bog screen? He says, “Not really. But again I wouldn’t want to do the usual stuff that daily soaps are. But if something interesting comes up why not?”

Arhaan, Sehban and Abhaas approached to play Betaal in Singhasan Battisi
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
The return of Vikram-Betaal tales on TV has brought a lot of buzz as popular faces are being approached to play the role of the ‘ghost’ Betaal in Sony PAL’s Singhasan Battisi (Creative Eye Productions).
After reports of Shaleen Malhotra declining the offer, here we get you some more names who have been approached for the role. Sources in the production house inform that Sehban Azim, Arhaan Behl and Abhaas Mehta are the faces among which one will be finalised to play the role.
Shares a source, “The track of Vikram and Betaal will be projected in a very different way in the show. The character of Betaal won’t appear as the ghastly avatar but will delve into the life of Betaal and how he became a devil. Also the character will be a powerful intelligent soul who would impart teachings to King Vikram (Karan Suchak).”
When we buzzed Sehban he said, “Yes I was approached for the role, but I had to decline the offer as I am currently busy with Humsafars.”
Arhaan denied being approached for the role.
On the other hand Abhaas shared, “Yes, I have auditioned but I am yet to get any confirmation on the same.”
However, our source further maintained that it seems Abhaas will be the one who would finally play Betaal in Singhasan Battisi.
Let’s wait and watch how the story unfolds in the coming days.
Till then read Tellychakkar.com for the latest updates from the world of TV and Bollywood.

I will always be who I am - Barun Sobti
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
When we met Barun Sobti for an interview for his upcoming movie Main Aur Mr Riight, the actor was busy doing a telephonic interview. He gestured to a nearby chair asking us to take a seat while he continued firing his answers into the cell phone. Dressed in white tees and denims, Barun looked strikingly handsome even in his slightly disheveled hair and two day old stubble. We could trace hints of exhaustion in his eyes for we were told that he had just gone through the rigmarole of completing more than a dozen of interviews in rapid succession. But that didn't dim his enthusiasm one bit and as soon as he was done speaking on his phone, the TV heartthrob welcomed us with a warm handshake and almost immediately said, ' Shoot.'
Main Aur Mr Riight is finally releasing after long. How are you feeling at the moment?
Well, truth be told, I am quite anxious and want to see how it does. I am sure it will do well.
Tell us about your character in the film?
I play Sukhi, a wannabe actor cum model. He is this loud, outspoken Punjabi boy from Delhi, someone who is not very sophisticated or suave. He is pretty much a misfit in a plush casting director's (played by Shenaz) office.
You played the sophisticated Arnav in Iss Pyaar Ko Main Kya Naam Doon. Do you think people will accept you in this rustic film avatar?
I have no idea if people will accept me or not but I am doing something that my gut feeling says is right. My instinct doesn't allow me to hold on to one strength that I have and keep making money out of it all my life. I want to explore and do different things and I will keep doing it.
You were a television heartthrob. Why didn't you debut with a big banner film?
I chose from the options I had and I am pretty happy about it. Finally everything is driven on the strength of your film's content. If you do a big banner film, you would be able to breakthrough but the only way you will sustain is if you have the ability. So I didn't want to lie to myself. It's just that when I read the script, I didn't think twice that I would need anything else to make it work. I was confident about myself and took it.
As an actor, what would you say are your strong points?
I am able to understand the psychology of an actor, the script and other characters around me. I think that is my advantage and that is why people think I am easy to shoot because I know when I am required to perform. There is no need to perform in every frame just to impress.
A lot of star sons are making their debut. How do you view the competition around you?
I seriously think there is a lot of space for everyone. Our industry is operating like the American industry right now. There are so many actors, directors and producers who are making films one after another. They are also recovering their money and making profits. So I think there is enough scope for everyone.
No actor in recent times except Sushant Singh Rajput has been able to make a successful transition from television to films. What do you think could be the problem?
(Attains a serious look)There is no transition to make from television to films. What makes you think that someone who is doing films will never do television again in his life? There is no transition and the good thing is that there is no bifurcation right now in both these industries. An actor is not a TV actor or a film actor today. An actor is just an actor. People who have done films all their lives are doing TV now and vice-versa. People are willing to cast TV actors. Yes, cinema has a bigger influence because when you visit theaters the screens are bigger, sound system is better which influence you more. So cinema is more influential and hence people think it is more superior. But as far as I see it, there is no transition for an actor to make.
What do you have to say about Sushant?
He is a very good actor.
You have not done anything significant on television since you started doing films yet your fan base has never decreased. Why do you think fans have remained associated to you despite your absence from TV?
I thought I will not tamper with myself and I will not try to put up a face or be vain. I will always be who I am and thankfully people like me like that way. Always be the way you are all your life.
Why did you join Twitter?
People forced me to join twitter. I am socially incapable but you have to adapt (smiles).
Madhum Hua, a fan of yours wants to know how you felt when you walked the ramp where you were the center of attraction?
Thank you for your question. To be honest, I hate volume. So when people yell, I get nervous. I had a kid walking with me that day. So I had to take care of her and hence had to be stable.
Pooja Oberoi wants to know if you have quit television completely and what kind of film projects would you take up and which Bollywood actress would you like to share screen space with?
Thank you for your question, Pooja. I can't really foresee and tell you what kind of films I will be doing and with whom. I have not quit television. Anything good that comes up anywhere except theaters, I am open to doing.
You were titled the 3rd Sexiest Asian Man by UK magazine Eastern Eye in 2013. What's your take on the same?
(Blushes and stammers) Okay let me be honest. When this happened, my wife was laughing at me.
Why? She doesn't think you are sexy?
Well, she doesn't think these things are to be tagged. She would make fun of me and say, 'Sexy haaan..' That's how such things are considered in my household. Even I don't take such tags seriously.
