Chhanchhan starts off with a 'decent' TRP of 1.4
The last year had not been good for Sony Entertainment Television’s fiction shows. None of their recently launched properties e rocked the TRP charts either.

Sony TV roped in the immensely popular Sanaya Irani to essay the role of the bubbly, outspoken modern bahu Chhanchhan in its recently launched show Chhanchhan (Optimystix Entertainment). Nevertheless, the opening TRP is just 1.4.

Despite Sony TV being a channel which caters to urban India the concept of a modern bahu isn’t making a mercurial impact. It seems that the viewers preferred the more demure avatar of Sanaya who they saw in Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?.

It is a sweet show though which is cheerful and light. It’s a refreshing break from the rona dona saas bahu shows. The cute dogs add a new complexion show and is a treat for animal lovers.

Chhanchhan which is at the 9pm slot is facing tough competition from Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus and also Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV. Hongey Judaa Na Hum, the show that Chhanchhan replaced was clocking a TRP of 0.4 just before it was taken off air. Chhanchhan is surely doing better than Hongey Judaa Na Hum, but to hike Sony TV’s GRPs it needs to deliver better. The broadcaster is currently at the fourth position on week 13 of TAM Ratings.

Producer Vipul Shah is optimistic nevertheless. He said, “It is a good start though I expected the opening TRP to be around 1.9. I am confident though that we will really produce the big numbers post the IPL. A simple story well told always works. My characters always have grey shades. Plus I am very lucky to have been blessed with a great cast. The chemistry between Sanya Irani and Supirya Pathak is mind blowing. I also feel that that the added element of the female protagonist being a dog trainer and a lead actress like Sanaya essaying the role has added freshness to the mix. Rather than just judging the performance of the serial simply by its opening numbers, we should keep in mind that the Chhanchhan has generated very positive vibes.”

When asked if the 9pm time slot was a challenging one for the show, Vipul replied, “Any time slot may be challenging. At 7.30pm Saraswatichandra on Star Plus is aired and at 8.30pm we have the highly popular Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV.”

A source who did not want to be named said that these numbers are very good for a challenging platform like Sony TV. We also got to know that a channel honcho was expecting a TRP between 1.2 and 1.4. We may thereby infer that the channel must be quite happy with the opening TRP.

Hello everyone, this is Farhan Khan aka Manav Borasagar from ChhanChhan on Sony Entertainment Television.

Today, I am here to brief you about myself.

Born in Bundelkhand in Madhya Pradesh, I finished my education with BA in English Literature from St. Andrews, Bandra.

I am a very simple guy who is extremely diplomatic. This is because I have learnt that the only way to survive in this world of controversy is by being diplomatic.

Acting is a very natural thing which happened to me. My whole family happens to be in the industry. Though my father Asif Khan himself is a producer and a director, I never approached him for work. This because I wanted to make things happen by putting in my own effort.

I always wanted to do movies and I was not much aware of the whole television industry. When I got to play the character of Manav, I was told that Sanaya will be teamed opposite me. Since I didn’t know about Sanaya, I Googled about her and found out that she is the most famous actress on television. She is a very happy go lucky kind of a girl who is very co-operative and never ever throws any tantrum on the sets. It’s indeed a wonderful experience working with her.

While talking about romancing with Sanaya, I don’t really mind doing it because it is my job and so is hers. I find it very rewarding that I am working with one of the finest actresses of television.

As far as my priority goes, it will always be a good romantic film or a show. I am kind of a guy who fits more into romance than in action.

I am lucky with everything happening in my life; take it from family, to my profession, to people with whom I get to work. Everything in my life is like a grace of God. I don’t regret a single day of my life, I take every day as a new day and take it as a blessing. Hence, I try and do everything I wish in order to leave nothing for the end.

For me, my hard work is of utmost important and I know I have to give my 100 per cent towards it.

As a kid I was a fan of Supriya Pathak aka Uma Ben in ChhanChhan, I even have a picture of mine sitting on her lap when I was a kid. So what more can be good then this that you get to work with people you admire.

I think this is enough for now. So guys, this is me Farhan Khan taking your leave for now but I promise to be among you all soon with some more interesting stuff.

Sanaya Irani gets a new Varun to romance in ‘Modern Bahu’
The famous Khushi of small screen will now be seen as Chanchan in the new telly show Modern Bahu. And can you guess who her hero is? The Humse Hai Life star Varun Kapoor has been roped in to play Sanaya Irani’s husband in Modern Bahu.

While the promos of the show are already on air, here’s is a little scoop on the other actors and actresses of the show. Produced by Optimystix Production, the show will have the veteran actors like Anang Desai and Supriya Pathak playing a couple. TV actors like Anushree Bathla, Jimit Trivedi and Romanch Mehta are also likely to join the show.

As per sources, Anushree Bathla will essay the role of one of the bahus of Anang Desai and Supriya Pathak, whereas Jimit Trivedi, last seen in Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum, and Romanch Mehta, currently seen in Colors' Durga, will play the sons. Actor Romanch Mehta tells a daily, “Yes, I am doing the show and I will play the role of the main lead's elder brother.”

Now all eyes are on Varun Kapoor, who is as good-looking as Sanaya’s former co-actor Barun Sobti, with whom she had a sizzling on-screen chemistry in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. Tall and handsome Farhan Khan is the latest entrant in the world of Indian television. He debuted as Manav in Sony Entertainment Television’s Chhanchhan (Optimistix). Hailing from a modeling background, Farhan has the challenge of acting well and matching the standards of his co star, Sanaya Irani in the show.

As a newbie, one needs time to understand and get a mastery over the art, but in today’s time, one has to get a rush on with the proceedings.

Accordingly, he got a shocker of his life recently when he heard the news (call it rumours) of him being replaced in the show pertaining to ‘bad’ performance.

“It’s all rubbish. I had a chat with Vipul Shah (producer) and he told me not to worry about anything. I don’t know where these rumors are cropping from. And it is obvious that fans will compare me with Barun Sobti (Sanaya’s co star in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon). The actor, Barun Sobti was only twenty six years old when breaking the hearts of all his female following, he got married to Pashmeena on the 12th of December, 2012. Barun Sobti’s marriage was a pretty low- profile affair attended by their close friends and relatives only. The actor was then portraying the character of Shravan Jaiswal in a leading role in Sony TV’s Baat Hamari Pakki Hain and was allowed to take only a day off. According to sources, even Sobti’s co actors from the serial could not be a part of the wedding as an off could be granted to only one person. Ankita Sharma, the female lead opposite Barun Sobti chuckles as she says that she didn’t attend the wedding as she thought that Barun’s presence in the marriage was more important. Their wedding took place in a gurudwara in a simple but conventional way, following all the necessary rituals. Apparently, Pashmeena’s family did not consent to their marriage earlier and it took them three long years to convince them. Everything did end well and Sobti was back in the sets of Baat Hamari Pakki Hain the following day as if nothing happened. Barun and Pashmeena went on a trip to Goa for their honeymoon later on.

The actor in several of his interviews has admitted that he hardly can relate to any of the characters he plays. Even in Baat Hamari Pakki Hain which he was shooting for at the time when he got married, he portrayed the role of a very irresponsible guy named Shravan Jaiswal while in real life he has quite a contradicting nature. Talk to him about his wife and you will see a very modest smile break through his lips. The blushing actor says to be enjoying the feeling of being married and being with the person he loves. The actor is said to be quite possessive of his lady love and initially refrained from revealing the identity of his spouse. His wife may not hail from the industry but is heard to be very understanding and has no objection to his female fan following, she is instead proud of it! According to what the actor has been heard saying in an interview, when he and his wife are out, she doesn’t even object with his female fans clicking pictures with him. Furthermore and most importantly, Pashmeena happens to acknowledge his love for her and is aware of the fact that if a certain role justifies, the actor would take up intimate scenes. Although the actor has an awkward feeling towards such scenes, his better half apprehends it to be a part of his profession. We now see why she made a place in the actor’s heart.

The actor says that he is not a teenager anymore and instead of partying, he loves to be back home when he is not busy shooting though he admits to miss spending time with friends back in Delhi. In his leisure time, Barun loves to spend time with family and his friends in Mumbai and while at home he engrosses in watching television. His favourite being Sony TV, he loves watching the Discovery channel, sports, reality shows and comedy ones like Khichdi and Instant Khichdi. He has also been heard of expressing his desire to be a part of a reality show. He is also fond of movies especially Andaz Apna Apna and Don’t Mess with The Zohan, his avourite actors being Aamir Khan and Sonali Behndre. Team MM: Prav wrote a comment saying, “In one of his interviews I remember he said that he doesn’t believe in fandom cos once his show IPKKND would be over all the fans will forget him. So here we are today truly madly and deeply crazy about him.” So your fanbase is still alive and kicking. Any messages for these fans?

Barun: I’m pleasantly surprised, actually. It’s a known fact that when you’re out of sight, you’re out of mind. But people have made a very deliberate effort to keep me in contention. I did an interview with a journalist called Stuti in Kolkata and she called me back saying what crazy fandom I have. She said she’s interviewed a lot of poeple but hasn’t seen anything like this. So at that time I was thinking, these people really have lived up to their word and they really do like things the way I’ve done them. I think people kind of relate to me because I’m a simple guy like these people are. So I just want to thank them and just hope I live up to your expectations and do things you like.

Team MM: What’s the craziest thing a fan has done for you?

Different things. A lotta people wanna hug you… it’s happened a lot lately, people who have seen me on the road lately have asked “Can I hug you? And kiss you?” That’s a little awkward when you’re with your wife. They’ll ask you to say dialogues and stuff. But it’s all taken good spirit and it’s nice, they’re all dignified people.

This Saturday, Barun Sobti, a popular star from the Indian TV industry, will take the stage for the first time in the role of the narrator of the play Do Fool Char Maali, at Shaikh Rashid Auditorium, The Indian High School Dubai.

Sobti, who gained popularity as Arnav Singh Raizada of Star Plus’ hit show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (IPKKND), however, feels the stage is not the place for him.

“Not once in my life have I done theatre. Being on stage is not my thing,” said the 28-year-old actor. “This show happened when we were shooting for IPKKND. It was Akshay’s [Dogra] idea actually and Utkarshaji’s [Naik, Sobti’s co-stars in the serial]. They started talking about it and everyone there made a commitment. And, because I was there, I committed too”.

Today, Sobti is moving on to bigger and better things — the 70mm kinds. Though his first movie as a lead, Main Aur Mr Right, which was slated for release at the end of the month, has been postponed for a July release, he is already working on the second, 22 Yards. However, the actor feels there’s no difference working on television or on the big screen.

“For me the only difference is I get to be home a lot more. With TV I had to work everyday. Now, I’m not enormously busy, and have been picking and choosing whatever I’m doing. As an actor, I think the experience and the portrayal of the character is exactly the same. It doesn’t make any difference what camera is capturing it. You have to do it with the same passion”.

When in Dubai, Sobti will also be paying a surprise visit to a Pehla subscriber. His popularity can easily be gauged from the way his fans reacted when he announced his departure from IPKKND, which actually led to the ending of the show. Despite controversial reports of fans threatening self immolation and subsequent statements from the channel, producers and the actors of the show, Sobti maintains the only reason he wanted to leave was his health.

“I am a very simple guy. Of course popularity matters a lot but for me my health and family come first,” explains Sobti. “I had been spending a lot of time working and needed to spend some time at home and take care of my health. That’s the only reason why I left the show despite it being so popular.”

Or could it be the alleged roaring off-screen chemistry he shared with his co-star Sanaya Irani? Or was that a publicity stunt on the part of the show’s producers?

“One cannot forget that showbusiness also deals with humans. Everything is not so superficial that this is rigged or planned. Sometimes people do fall in love with each other because they spend a lot of time on the sets so much so the set becomes your first home and your actual home becomes your second home. But I don’t disagree, though it hasn’t happened to me [producers using on screen chemistry as a publicity stunt] people may do this for publicity also.

“See what happens — and I know I’ve been saying it in all my interviews so I’d probably be boring my viewers now — is you lose perspective if you’re working so hard every day. You can’t think straight, you can’t do new things. Basically the monotony hit me. That’s it”.

Sobti, who has played both negative and positive roles on television, finds the villain attractive.

“A role being meaty depends on how it’s written. Playing a villain in Dill Mill Gayye, I learned you can do whatever you want and the director’s more than happy to accommodate. But with the hero’s or the positive role come a lot of limitations. The hero won’t behave like this; the hero won’t sneeze like that — stuff of that sort. In our industry the men or boy actors have to be ‘hero-types’, if you know what I mean. They can’t be human beings. Where I am in life right now I just want to do good scripts and roles”.

Utkarsha Naik who was recently seen playing the character of Manorama Mami in Star Plus' popular show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? is all set to be seen in an episodic of Life Ok's popular show Savdhaan India @11. Utkarsha will be seen playing a very strong character.

Our source informed us that the episodic in which Utkarsha is going to be seen, will focus on the real story of the fire that broke out at the Upahar Cinema few years back. Utkarsha's character is going to be the strong character of the lady who lost her two sons in that accident and she was the one who fought against the culprits.

TellyBuzz spoke to Utkarsha, who confirmed the news saying, "Yes, I am doing an episodic in Savdhaan India and my character is going to be of a strong women who lost her two sons in a fire which broke out in a cinema theatre. It was an amazing experience shooting for the show. Savdhaan India @11 has highly concentrated drama in every bit of it. I have finished shooting for the episode and its going to be a very interesting episode. Hope people will like it."

"Since Barun is a good looking guy who likes to experiment with his wardrobe, we made him sport a lot of kurtas. It goes well with his character of a Bengali. I personally think sky blue colour suits him the best, but then he looked dashing in this yellow kurta. He just oozed attitude in this. It suited him so much that we will surely make him wear this particular kurta in the film. A casual black kurta will also go with his persona. The look will be very different from that of Arnav Raizada," said Mitali Ghoshal, the director of the film, which will be shot mostly in Kolkata.

"Ron is immaculate, so we wanted a look wherein it shouldn't look as if he is trying too hard," said Barun, aka Arnav Raizada of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, before he left for Dubai to perform a play.

Mitali added, "To understand Ron's look, one has to understand his character. Barun's character, Ron, is that of a modern-urban guy. Ron is a number one sports agent of the country. He is an international figure based in Kolkata. Plus, he is not a very predictable person. His wardrobe reflects that. He plays a charmer and will be seen in half tucked shirts and casual kurtas. Sometimes he will be seen in formals too."

Mitali added that no makeup was used on Barun during the look test. "You will be surprised to know, but Barun never uses any makeup," she added.

Sanaya Speaks On Chhan Chhan TRP Report Week 15

Last week, we had published the opening TRP report of Chhan Chhan, and here we are present with the latest TRP report of week 15.

This weeks chart is a little dissappointing, as it shows a significant downfall in the ratings.
Last week, Chhan Chhan's openning TRP was 1.4, which has fallen down to 0.6 this week.
Though, the numbers are not pretty convincing, producer Vipul D. Shah is still looks confident about the show's performance.

"It is just a weekly data and the show is just 16 episodes old. And, as the audience's concern, we have been receiving the pretty positive response about the show, which is quite convincing," says Mr. Shah, the producer of the show, while defending the newbie male lead Farhan Khan. "The boy is incredibly hard working and is putting tremendous effort to improve, and this is the thing that really matters. You can see him rehearsing his scenes with complete focus and determination despite of all the critisism and bashing he has been facing, on the sets. I am sure that soon he be ruling over the viewers' heart." Says Vipul Shah while answering the questions of media, on the replacement rumor of Farhan.

When we asked Sanaya for her verdict on it, she said, "At this time, you can compare the show to a new born baby, which is struggling to learn how to survive in the new world. Even IPK had got low TRPs in its first three to four months and then people started liking it and the ratings went up gradually. And I am hoping the same to be happened with Chhan Chhan." "Besides this, due to the IPL season and incomplete digitization process, the average ratings of other shows have also gone down," concludes Ms. Irani.

When got asked about Farhan's replacement in the show, Sanaya said that she has no clue about it. "I have no idea. In fact, I am listening to this news from you, for the first time. And as far as the acting's concern; this is his debut show and he is still in the learning phase. Usse thoda time to do, yaar! (Give him some time, buddy). I think the viewers should accept him with an open perspective," says Sanaya to her fans.

Well, we agree with you, Sanaya. People should give him some more time to improve. And we hope that may the show take up its full pace and things get back to the normal, once the IPL season is over.
