I don't feel betrayed with Vivian’s re-entry in Madhubala: Gunjan Utreja

Life is uncertain and that is what makes it intriguing and special. But ask the wise man and he will say it’s always easier said than done. And one television actor experienced the uncertainty element to the core, recently. We are talking about Gunjan Utreja, who with much fanfare and media glare, entered Colors’ show Madhubala (Nautanki Films), after its previous lead Vivian Dsena walked out of the door. All was good until in a rather shocking twist, Vivian re-entered the scheme of things, shifting the spotlight away from Gunjan. The situation is precarious to the extent of being funny. One wonders how in the world of entertainment, overnight, equations change and fate alters. Though many would believe that with Vivian’s entry, Gunjan will be left with little screen presence, Gunjan, takes some tough questions from Tellychakkar.com and asserts that “he is here to stay”. Excerpts:

Hello Gunjan…so how’s the mood? Feeling betrayed?

Oh, not at all. Why should I feel betrayed? This is how the industry works. Things keep changing. And my producer (Abhinav Shukla) had always maintained that I was never the lead of the show. I am here to work and focus on my character. There’s no point thinking about things which are beyond my control.

But you had no idea of Vivian’s re-entry. You were not informed at all. That must have hurt?

It did not hurt but was surprising, yes. But I took up Madhubala with great hopes, and I still feel I have lots to do. I would have felt betrayed or hurt had they asked me to leave the moment Vivian entered. But that’s not the case. Future will see varied shades of Abhay Kapoor (his character) and his equations with Madhu (Drashti Dhami) and Vivian’s character.

So it wasn’t shocking, you say?

Ahh…I was shocked when Vivian left the show, not when he returned (chuckles).

Fair enough. All set to play the second fiddle in Madhubala?

Define second fiddle. Would you call Shah Rukh Khan a second fiddle in Darr. Listen, television has no star appeal. Or else SRK’s Paanchvi Paas also would have worked. Here it’s all about the writing and characters. That’s what I have learnt in my brief stint in daily soap scenario. This is something new for me and I am learning with each passing day. I have always been a host earlier, as you all know.

But you were hardly given any time to connect as Abhay Kapoor? Why the sudden change?

I have heard they said that things were not shaping up. But all I know people started liking my character. I think the creatives should have given more time. But then, they are the ones who decide at the end of the day. See, I knew someone would come later in stage in between Abhay and Madhu. But then the actor could have been anyone else. Vivian’s entry is appealing for viewer’s point of view, I guess.

Have you met Vivian? Any traces of professional animosity?

Yes, we have met twice and no there has been no animosity at all. Till now, we have spoken really well and we have been really cordial to each other. You know I was unwell a couple of days ago and Vivian offered me home made food, which was kind of sweet.

General opinion is that Vivian’s a tad arrogant in nature. How would you deal with it?

He might be but with me he has been very nice. So no complains at all.

Once Vivian spoke to us and when we asked him about you, he said, “Who Gunjan”? Your comment on it…

Ahh…that’s surprising. May be when you all spoke to him he was in Ujjain with his family and was keeping busy. Other than that I don’t know what to say.

You think he’s insecure of you?

I can’t say that, you have to ask him. But Madhubala is his playground, so he has nothing to worry about.

Are you insecure of him?

Not at all. I just focus on my work, nothing else.

What about your other co star Drasht Dhami? All good with her?

Yes, she has been very supportive and I enjoy working with her.

Anything else…

She is a cordial co star, not really a friend but then my focus is to work good, that’s it.

So how will the personal relationship pan out` between you, Vivian and Drashti in the coming days?

It should be good. We can be friends, yes certainly. Together we will work to make the show better.

There are whispers that Vivian’s not really pally with Drashti? Any observation…

I too have heard so, but ask me, they go along perfectly well. I mean, there has to be some connect for them to churn out such emotionally charged scenes in Madhubala. There lies the answer.

What if with Vivian’s entry, Gunjan’s Abhay Kapoor has to exit?

I don’t think so. I mean my producer and creatives have been working closely with me and discussing ways to bloom my character. Why would they let me go?

You never know…what if it really happens?

Then who cares. Puri zindagi Madhubala thodi hi karna hai. The entire world’s my playground and I am sure I would get more challenging work in the future.

Amen to that. So what now?

What now? Well, I am super excited to figure out how my characters pans out. Even if I have a minute’s screen presence in an episode, I want to leave an indelible mark on my viewer’s minds. Rest, I want everyone’s love and support and hope to entertain for years and years to come.

A very close second in the list is ‘Sabki ladli’ Madhubala Drashti Dhami who will soon touch 100k followers on twitter. She is one TV celeb who probably enjoys the most fan following on web, social media and various other forums where she is discussed and loved by all her fans. Drashti says, “ there are usually network issues on the sets where I work the whole day so it becomes little difficult to be constantly updating everyone and when I wrap up I am very tired but still I make sure I let my fans know about the important developments in my professional life.” No wonder her fans keep on increasing everyday.

I love living out of suitcases: Gunjan Utreja

Gunjan Utreja got an admission call to IIM Lukhnow, but life took a different tangent for him as he decided to chase his most cherished dream of becoming an anchor. And as he took this decision, life took 180 degrees turn for Gunjan! From living in suitcases to host various corporate and entertaining events, to doing few character roles in daily soaps — Gunjan got into limelight as he anchored Zindagi Ki Haqeeqat Se Aamna Saamna. And now, he is flying high after bagging the role of Abhay Kapoor in Madhubala...Ek Ishq Ek Junoon.

So what do you prefer doing when not busy with work? I enjoy travelling, watching movies, reading books. And that apart, it is very essential for me to stay fit and from October to January, I have lost 10 kilos! I am very focussed to what I want — I went all vegetarian for two and half months and I didn't depend ever on steroids to stay fit. And it won't be wrong to say that — this is all much needed as I'm an anchor first. I love living out of suitcases.

Are you seeing someone? I have no time for relationships right now. Right now, it is just I, me and myself. My work is the only priority in life currently so I cannot focus on any person other than me.

With 'revenge' in mind Abhay to propose marriage to Madhu in Colors' Madhubala

The main concept of Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon will soon be revisited with Abhay Kapoor (Gunjan Utreja) getting to know of Madhu’s identity!!

Well, the budding love story of Madhu (Drashti Dhami) and Abhay in the Nautanki Films’ show on Colors, seems to have hit the roadblock even before it could blossom.

Our readers would remember of Tellychakkar.com, writing about Abhay’s ‘cute and filmy’ confession of love for Madhu. But now, revenge will blur the love of Abhay and he will soon be seen taking an oath to destroy the life of Madhu forever.

Our source states, “At the hospital in Mathura, Abhay will overhear all the conversation between Madhu, Bittoo (Indresh Malik) and Radhaji (Shama Deshpande). He will be shocked to know that Radhaji, mother of RK (Vivian Dsena) and Madhu are alive. He will feel upset at himself for having given money to save the life of his biggest enemy, Radha. Soon he will be seen promising his dead father of completing revenge and ruining the life of Radha and Madhu.”

While it will be ‘Ishq’ for Madhu, it will only be ‘Junoon’ for Abhay, and this is how their relationship will move forward from now on.

We also hear that Abhay will decide to marry Madhu in the next few days, and will also announce his decision before Madhu and his family members in the coming episodes.

‘I took up the show not knowing my role’

One of television’s most popular actors, Vivian D’Sena, who had made an exit from the show Madhubala — Ek Ishq Ek Junoon (Colors), will soon make a reentry, albeit in a different character. The actor is now essaying the role of a mentally challenged man in the show. We hear that it is on popular demand that the actor has been brought back on the show.
Vivian says that he accepted the offer to make a comeback on the show without even knowing what his new role would be. “I feel humbled by the fact that fans love me on the show. I was busy with some other stuff earlier and then I had just started thinking of getting back to work. Abhinav, who is the producer of Madhubala, is a friend of mine. He called one day asking if he could meet me. He told me he wanted me back on the show and he was confident that it would work. At that time, though, he didn’t have a concrete plan in mind. But I could not say no to him and took up the offer without even knowing what my role would be like. Our wavelengths and ideas match; that’s what matters to me,” says the actor.

Ever since Vivian’s exit from the show, there have been several new cast members. However, the actor doesn’t find it odd to work with new faces. “I met the new cast members recently and it was fine. Even though they are new, the rest of the team is the same. So the comfort level is still there. During my earlier days on the show, all of us used to hang out after pack up. I am really happy to be back with them,” he says.
His new character is still a work in progress. “The makers of the show are not done with formulating my character yet. It’s going to be shaped by Prashant Bhatt, Ravindra Gautam and Abhinav Shukla,” he says. The transition from his old character to the new one will be a challenging one. From playing RK, a flamboyant role, Vivian will have to now step into the shoes of a mentally challenged man. “I will have to work really hard but I am positive,” says the actor.
His co-star Dhrashti Dhami is also glad about his return. “I met her during one of the breaks along with team members Bituji and Shama Deshpande, who we are very close to. Dhrashti is happy to have me back on the show and we spoke about it at length. We have been like a happy family ever since we started working together on the show. Shama used to get us homemade food and Bituji is my best fan, who is very happy to see me back,” Vivian says.
As of now the actor says that the audience can expect to see a lot of changes in the show and he hopes that they work in the show’s favour. Vivian also seems supportive of Gunjan Utreja, who replaced him on the show. “I have met him twice. Gunjan is a hardworking guy and he has been sincere in his efforts so far. When an actor starts shooting, he needs time to get into the character. He was not well when I had dropped in on the sets but he was still shooting for the show. It’s important to stay dedicated,” he says.
