Jodi kamaal ki Arnav Singh Raizada (Barun Sobti) and Khushi Kumari Gupta (Sanaya Irani) of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? need no introduction. Their super sizzling screen chemistry with a hit background track (Rabba Ve), made this picture-perfect couple light up the soapbox. They were showstoppers in the real sense and despite the abrupt end of the soap, there are continued demands from fans to bring the couple back in a new show.

TV shows that have created hysteria in 2012
Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?- Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani's chemistry on the show is what made Iss Pyaar Ko popular! Although the storyline did not have much meat, it was Sanaya and Barun's onscreen pairing that had fans going crazy about the two. So much so that when the makers deiced to abruptly end the show on 30th November 2012, they were bombarded by fans to bring the show back by popular demand. Although Sanaya Irani was reportedly unhappy with the abrupt ending, co-star Barun Sobti decided to quit the show to pursue his Bollywood dream. Sanaya and Barun have won the Best Jodi award at several award functions including the People's Choice Awards India, going on to prove that actors can be bigger than their shows.

Tellychakkar readers want Harshad Chopda paired opposite Sanaya Irani
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
With his enchanting performance on the small screen, chocolate boy Harshad Chopda has managed to win a lot of hearts in the last few years. And the credit of his performance also goes to his pretty looking co-stars.
Harshad had been paired with Additi Gupta ( Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil), Anupriya Kapoor (Tere Liye), Aasiya Kazi (Dharmpatni) and Sriti Jha (Saubhagyavati Bhava). Since this actor has been seen with some beautiful ladies as his co-stars and linked otherwise, we wondered whom would he look best with in his next TV venture.
Well, one should never waste a thought. Hence, we put up a poll asking our readers whom would they pair opposite Harshad had they been producers. And, we received some amazing responses till yesterday (13 December 2012) 6 pm as we shut the poll, post that.
The options given were Jennifer Winget, Sanaya Irani, Ankita Lokhande, Shilpa Anand, Krystle D’souza, Ragini Khanna and Pooja Gor. And though all these popular faces got some votes, Sanaya Irani of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon fame received the highest votes.
Congratulations Sanaya!
We just hope all the producers out there are reading this!

'Me spiritual? I must have been talking about alcohol'- Viraf Phiroz
Viraf Phiroz who is highly intelligent, a talented actor and has a great sense of humour gives an in-depth interview to Tellybuzz…
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
Does it disappoint you that you were offered to join the show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? and then they decided to end the show?
Disappointment is an understatement! I tried looking the other way and bang the bangles on the forehead, but there were no bangles. Then I tried jumping off my balcony but then my credit card people cradled me downstairs. I tried walking into the sea but then I suddenly remembered that I had left the geyser on, after all the filmy clichs failed, I gave up. However, fortunately I watched the parliament proceedings on Lok Sabha TV. After seeing the state of the politics of my country I suddenly felt much better about my own state.
But, it was a good show, a great channel and a very able team. A gap of a month or so occurred between getting locked in for the show and beginning shoot, during which my character's look tests and nitty gritties were being figured. One of those days, I wanted to spend some time on shoot, just to let the set up sink in. So I did and loved what I saw.
It was such a joy to see Barun Sobti, Sanaya Irani, Daljeet Bhanot, Karan Goddwani, Abhaajee (Abhaa Parmar) and Jayshreeji (Jayshree T) work their characters with such lan and ease. It was awesome to see how switched on Aman, the associate director, would be throughout the entire shoot. I had some fine interaction with the creative Richa Singh Gautam and even met the screenplay writer Gautam Hegde, who is quite the dude. Plus the chai on the set was something else. Toh bhai disappointment toh banta hai na!
However I would assume my disappointment would remain dwarfed by that of the team working on it since 18 months. When Lata, the production karta dharta on set, called me to share the news, I realised it must be harder for her, the cast, director, writers, creative team, tech crew and perhaps even the channel to let go of something they have nurtured for 18 months. I just wanted to give her a hug at that very moment, so I gave her one albeit over the phone.
Please tell us something about the character you were to play on the show, was it Arnav's role or some other role?
I was brought onboard to essay a new character paired opposite Khushi's character. He was meant to be something on the lines of a cold, manipulative, ruthless business tycoon, who had a mysterious past rivalry with ASR.
When I was talking to the director, Lalit Mohan over the possibilities on my character, he had some exciting thoughts cooking in his head. The motivator he is, he had me all charged.
I even shot for a day, for my character's teaser entry with Sanaya. It was meant to be planted in on the following Monday's episode. But unfortunately that turned out to be the last Monday for the show and the makers consequently saw no point in introducing my character. So all that we shot was done hello, hi, to on the edit.
You are very popular but I believe that you were also receiving hate messages as you were to replace Barun Sobti on the show. Those who uploaded those posts I feel were immature as it's no fault of yours that they had wanted to replace Barun with you. How did you feel on getting those messages?
It was heartening and always left me with a smile and at times a laugh. I could recall my own state of disappointment, when Pierce Brosnan (my favourite Bond) was replaced by Daniel Craig as the new James Bond. I felt cheated, let down and angry at the makers and I even went to the extent of believing that Daniel Craig was just an opportunist! But now a few Bond films later it's a different story. I love and respect Daniel Craig's ability to reinvent the character, though Pierce Brosnan which will always remain special. (Likewise Sean Connery is my father's favourite Bond).
However, the one thing that I see as common in the love for Barun and the hate for me is the passion which the audiences bring to their show viewing. It is this very passion that makes me put in that extra mile. So how can I complain about it?
Yes, we are all taught since school that change is inevitable and that change is good but it's only human for us to resist change. So as for all those who felt passionately 'for' Barun and 'against' me; were perhaps just being human not personal. They barely know me or my abilities.
Ironically Barun is one of the TV actors I have always admired. I loved him in the show Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. He filled the hollowness of that character with the substance in his ability and performances; which went largely unsung. This is exactly what I told him when I met him on sets and he agreed with a smile. But it is great to see Barun get the recognition due to him thanks to Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? and ASR, I just wish him the best for his future endeavours.
As for the hatred, I'd say bring it on, for I believe stronger the hate, higher the chances of converting it to love, because they are two sides of the same source of emotion; the heart of the audience.
Of all the roles you have played on TV with which role do you identify the most?
I just identify with the wealth of all the characters I've played, wish I was half as rich as any one of them.
Do you miss the merchant navy?
Yes, but in a good way! There are moments which one can only experience at the sea. Those are what I miss.
You cook quite well. What are the dishes that you can make the best? Which are your favourite cuisines? Please give us an original recipe of yours.
I make the best Dhansakh in Andheri (the Mumbai suburb I stay in). My housing society just on the basis of the fragrance and flavours coming out of my kitchen, has given me a certificate of the best cook.
Oriental cuisine is my favourite cuisine .. and here is a simple winner of non-veg recipe. Chicken-a la – giraffe. Simmer half cup of milk, throw in paste of the following; half cup ginger garlic, half a cup green chillies, 8 onions, 3 cups soaked cashew nuts. Let the chicken (preferably not live) jump in after the curd and salt into the pressure cooker. After a couple of whistles, garnish with bright red chillies, chopped pineapple and love (fresh is always better but even tinned will do, I meant the pineapple, not love). Serve hot with caramel rice and a smile.
Disclaimer: I was kidding about the certificate but I still urge you to try the above recipe.
In an interview you said that you believe that your spiritual inclination keeps you centred. Please elaborate on this.
Me spiritual? I must have been talking about alcohol, I am sure.
Your hobbies include listening to music. What kind of music do you like to hear?
Just about everything except heavy metal. I find my taste and preference to music changing according to my personal growth and bank statements. When I am feeling rich I listen to happy and peppy stuff and when am broke I resort to melancholic tunes.
You also have an interest in movies. Please name your favourite movies.
Shawshank Redemption, Crash, the Munnabhai series, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, OMG, Memento, Schindlers List, Slumdog Miliionaire, Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Inception, Dark Knight, the Madagascar series, the Ice Age series, Wall E, Megamind, Separation (Iran), The Painting (France), Twice Upon a Time (France).
My friend Sharib has made this film Filmistaan and i was lucky to catch a preview. It's doing the festival circuit currently and they are working on its release. It's the latest addition to my favourites, I can't wait for it to hit the screens.
Being with the Merchant Navy previously, what did you think of The Life of Pi as it also has a sea backdrop?
I thought the movie was a spectacular audio visual experience and liked it more so for its ideology. What was special for me was the way Ang Lee showed how the concurrent brutality and generosity of the sea teaches one to surrender.
I had met the screenwriter of the film, David Magee during his visit to India for a workshop done by MAMI. He had spoken at length about how the film was written shot et al. All that conversation made the viewing of the film so much more interesting for me. Couldn't help taking a few learnings from it as well.
What kind of roles would you never do?
I don't know how to answer that. Life has taught me to never say never.
Do you have a girlfriend now?
Well that is something for me to know and you to keep guessing for now.
What qualities are you looking for in a wife?
Same as that I look for in my friends and a car. Sundar (especially inside), susheel (to me, others and herself), sasti (low maintenance because am cheap) aur tikau (sticks around).

Due to the departure of lead actor Barun Sobti from the project, the series was ended prematurely on November 30, 2012.

TV baddies take their shows to new heights in 2012
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
Karanvir Bohra
Prime time television's baddies comfortably flaunted their grey stripes and took their mean streak to newer TRP highs as they happily created trouble for the protagonists in 2012.
Abhaas Mehta: As Shyam Manohar Jha in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, Abhaas Mehta was easily one of creepiest telly baddies ever! He was probably the only baddie who was given a dramatic entry in a show, saved the heroine from ruffians and addressed even his enemies with respect (Saale Sahab, Khushiji). Everytime he'd come on screen for a face off with Barun Sobti, the protagonist, Abhaas showed off his acting chops with finesse.

Audiences called the shots in 2012
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
Bade Achche Laggte Hain's intimacy scene was a viral hit over with 2,697,586 clicks; Diya Aur Baati Hum has been a constant TRP-topper all through the year with its TRPs ranging between 5.5 and 6 every week. As if that's not enough, viewers were asked to decide the name for Naitik-Akshara's child in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, smses were run to know whether Jeevika should undergo abortion to donate bone marrow to Maanvi in Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai. Recently viewers were also asked to send their best wishes to Anandi for her wedding with Shiv and be a part of wedding in Balika Vadhu. In Punar Vivah, the channel had asked the audience to decide if Aarti should tell Yash about her divorce.
Indian television probably had never seen such outpouring of emotions when Barun Sobti decided to quit the hugely popular Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?. The channel was bombarded with phone-calls and e-mails from loyal fans and finally the show went off air to appease the fans.
The number of TV homes in India grew from 120 million in 2007 to 148 million in 2011. Cable reaches 94 million homes with 88 million analog connections and 6 million digital ones, while DTH has commanded 41 million subscribers. India is the world's third largest TV market next to China and USA. Television is projected to command half of the entertainment pie in India by 2015 as it is estimated to grow at a robust 14.5% cumulatively over the next five years, from an estimated ' 306 billion in 2010 to ' 602.5 billion by 2015.
For GECs, the mantra that worked in 2012 was Yeh audience hai, sab jaanti hai! The TV industry swears by TRPs which decides the fate of the show. If a show doesn't garner TRPs, it has gone off air in less than three months. GECs and showmakers have taken measures to "connect" with the audience. From emails, letters, phone-calls, smses — you name it and the audiences gave their inputs to various shows for the next-track-forward.
As India moves ahead on the digital path, television viewing is making that paradigm shift from the TV set to online viewing. India is a market with 800 million mobile handsets connected to the Internet, and another 150 million desktops and PCs. For many people, watching popular soaps on internet has become a matter of habit.
Talking about the role of the viewers, Rajan Shahi says, "In showbiz, it's important for us to take constant audiences' feedback through participatory activities. The voices of audiences are now audible through social networking sites, emails and the like. It's essential to strike a balance between story-line and audiences' likes/dislikes." So how does audiences' involvement in terms of feedback and participation in the creative process affect a show? "When a show is doing well, audiences connect with the character. In the end, it's the show which is the winner," says producer Sudhir Sharma.
How do GECs take a call when they have to cater to public demand? Sukesh Motwani, fiction head of a popular GEC shares, "Audiences definitely matter, but, we strike a balance between vision of the show and audiences' choices. If we change the basic vision of the show, we will lose our loyal audience."And where do actors figure in this? Actor Karanvir Bora says, "Audiences are now exposed to international TV shows. Now they look at portrayal of real characters."
In an age, when remote control decides the fate of a television show, here's a toast to the viewers.

Barun Sobti is indeed a 'hot property'...
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
Barun Sobti as Arnav Singh Raizada of Star Plus’ recently ended show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, has captured the hearts of millions, and fans of this dashing actor want to see more of him on television again.
So what is Barun up to post Iss Pyaar Ko, and what are his plans for the future? Well, everyone knows that Barun was on a well deserved break in London. While he was out of the country, Tellychakkar.com through some reliable industry sources got to know that the actor is indeed a ‘hot property’ owing to his huge popularity and for the fact that his successful Star Plus show was closed down just because the actor wanted to be eased out of it.
Our source further gave us the inside information that Zee TV (after roping in the big hero Karan Singh Grover in their show Qubool Hai) is now eyeing to cast Barun Sobti in one of their upcoming shows. Having said this, all know that Barun had left Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon as he wanted to make it big in Bollywood. And if all goes well, Zee TV might sign an exclusive contract with the actor wherein he is committed to only 15 days for his television shoot, and he utilizes the other half to shoot for the Bollywood offers in hand, informed our source.
Another news that we got is that Barun has already managed to bag a movie under the banner of Eros and that Ekta Kapoor too has also shown a keen interest in casting Barun in one of her upcoming films.
Tellychakkar.com (we have been chasing this story for a few days now) had earlier called Barun when he was in London, but could not reach to him. However, the actor had then returned our call and answered our queries stating, “I am presently enjoying my break. I am not in talks for any television show as movies is my priority right now.”
Today (20 December), we got to know that Barun is back in India and we did follow up by calling him again. However, Barun told us, “I returned to India this Monday (17 December) and am in Mumbai right now. But I have been running around after getting back; I will have to call you later.”
One thing is for sure, that Barun has a whole lot of exciting offers in his kitty… He simply needs to sit back, weigh the pros and cons and pick the best in offer.
Barun, we wish you all the best!!!

What holds 2013 for popular TV stars...
[Trebuie sa fiti înscris şi conectat pentru a vedea această imagine]
Barun Sobti: Barun’s planet Jupiter is strong, so fame will continue embracing him in 2013 also. As far as television is concerned, I don’t see him returning to the small screen in the New Year, unless he gets a very good offer. His Sun planet is also strong which means that he will earn success in whatever he does, but it is advisable for him to stick to TV. His film career will be more or less consistent.
Sanaya Irani: Sanaya’s Saturn planet is heavy and this will favor in her professional and personal life. Post February, there are chances of her coming back on small screen. Talking about her personal life, she might think of taking her relationship to the next level by planning roka or engagement ceremony with Mohit Sehgal.
